Weekend service restored on CTA's Skokie Swift

With very little fanfare, the Chicago Transit Authority has restored weekend service on its Yellow Line -- better known as the Skokie Swift -- for the first time since 1991.

The service resumed Sunday and will continue for at least six months, with trains will run every 15 minutes from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Swift has only two stops. It runs from the Dempster Station in Skokie to the Howard Station on the Chicago/Evanston border, where it connects to the Red Line into Chicago and the Purple Line that links Chicago and Evanston. The curving Yellow Line has long been popular during the workweek for people who live and shop in Skokie.
