All programs require advance registration. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
There is an after-hours drop slot at the south entrance of the Viking Park Administrative Building. Registration and payments by check, Visa or MasterCard only, should be enclosed in a sealed envelope. The drop slot will be emptied at 9 a.m. each business day. There is also a drive-up collection box at the circle drive in Viking Park.
Mad Science Camp: Mad Science Camp is filled with science fun and discoveries. Camps combine activities and experiments with games, projects and exploration, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays, this Wednesday through May 21, at Viking Park and Thursdays, this Thursday through May 22, at Hunt Club Park.
Belly Dancing: The Gurnee Park District will offer Beginning and Intermediate Belly Dancing Mondays, April 7 to June 2, at Viking Park. Learn the art of belly dance in the beginning class from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. The intermediate class, from 8 to 9 p.m., is a continuation for students who enjoy the art of belly dancing.
Digital Photo Album: Create a digital story book using a free Story Book Creator software program at 7:30 p.m. April 8 at the Hunt Club Park Community Center.
Cooking Classes: The Gurnee Park District is offering cooking classes that offer new recipes and unique variations on classic recipes. "Chinese Pancake and Stir Fry (Moo Shu)" will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. April 9 and "Chinese Noodles" will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon May 3.
Adult Tennis Lessons: The Gurnee Park District offers several levels of adult instructional tennis programs from beginner to advanced. Lessons take place at Viking Park tennis courts beginning on April 10.
Family Kite Event: Join the Gurnee Park District from 9 to 10 a.m. April 12 at Hunt Club Park to celebrate "Flying 4 Kids" month. This is a statewide kite flying event to promote park districts and the Park District Youth License Plate. The family event is free and open to the public. The first 25 participants will receive a free kite. The event will feature a kite flying stunt demonstration, a limited amount of kite making kits, prizes and snacks. Participants are encouraged to bring their own kites and practice their skills. In case of inclement weather, call the park district.
Basic Drawing: In this class, young students work on fine motor development and organizational skills, while older children receive training in fundamental drawing techniques and creative expression. Each session consists of different drawings. All materials are provided. Classes are from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. for ages 3½ to 5, 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. for ages 6 to 8 and 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. for ages 9 to 12 on Mondays, April 14 to May 5, at Hunt Club Park Community Center.
Intro to Adobe Photoshop: Learn how Adobe's family of image editors can help organize and perfect photos. Learn about the entire family of Photoshop products, including live demos of Adobe Photoshop CS3. Classes are for ages 17 and up, and will be held April 19 at the Hunt Club Park Community Center.
Bedazzling Beads: Each student will create a necklace using various beads such as glass, crystal or silver. Class is for students ages 10 to 16 and will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. April 24 at the Hunt Club Park Community Center.
Aquatic Passes on sale: Purchase a Hunt Club Park Aquatic Center Pass before May 1 to save money. Applications are available at the Viking Park Registration Office, the Hunt Club Registration Office, or online.
Zumba and Turbokick: The Hunt Club Fitness Center now has Zumba at 7:30 p.m. Mondays and 6:30 p.m. Thursdays and Turbokick at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays, offered as drop-in classes. It is not necessary to be a member to participate. To get a copy of the group exercise schedule, stop by Hunt Club Park Community Center or go to the park district's Web site.
Summer Camps: Sunshine Explorers is a full-day summer camp for children who will be 5 years old as of Sept. 1 and will be entering or have just completed kindergarten. Camps are offered three days and five days a week.
The Gurnee Park District also offers summer camps for 3- and 4-year olds in the morning at Viking Park and Hunt Club Park. Children will have opportunities for socialization, crafts, nature, songs, games and water play.
