Elgin free yard-waste pickup continues through April

Elgin residents can continue to dispose of yard waste free of charge beginning Monday and continuing through the entire month of April.

Prepaid stickers are not required on yard-waste bags and bundles during this period.

Residents are reminded that bundled brush is collected free of charge during the entire yard-waste collection season, which runs through the end of November.

Yard waste must be bagged in paper yard-waste bags, or tied into secure bundles up to 45 pounds and no larger than 2 feet by 5 feet.

Waste Management will collect yard waste separately on residents' regular curbside collection days.

Residents are encouraged to "think green" when sprucing up their yards this spring and throughout the growing season.

"Composting and mulching grass clippings, leaves and other yard debris is a great way to provide your lawn with nutrient-rich fertilizer," according to Tish Powell, public works administrative superintendent.

"Recycling your yard waste saves residents money by reducing the amount of yard waste bags, refuse stickers and fertilizer purchased."
