Inside look at NCAA

Sunday's heroes

Derrick Rose, Memphis Who's the greatest player to hail from Chicago? Isiah Thomas? Mark Aguirre? Terry Cummings? In a decade or two, the 19-year-old Rose just might be the correct answer. Rose dominated the Tigers' 85-67 victory over Texas with 21 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 dunks. He has a shoe deal in his immediate future.

Sasha Kaun, Kansas Last year's weak link turned into a monster just when the Jayhawks needed him most. The 6-foot-11 senior didn't miss a shot as he produced 13 points (most since Jan. 8) and 7 rebounds to give Bill Self his first Final Four trip after four Elite Eight misfires.

Sunday's zeros

D.J. Augustin, Texas The All-American point guard shot 4-for-18 from the field and committed 4 turnovers. Aside from the poor numbers, he tried several wild shots early that encouraged his teammates to do the same -- with predictable results.

Jason Richards, Davidson Anyone who delivers 9 assists against Kansas isn't really a zero, obviously. But one wonders whether the 2004 Barrington HS grad will remember the Wildcats' great NCAA ride -- or his errant 25-footer at the buzzer that would have put him just after Christian Laettner on the all-time Elite Eight highlight reel.
