Thank you, docs, for all that you do
National Doctors' Day is a time when all of us can publicly show appreciation to the role of physicians in caring for the sick, advancing medical knowledge and promoting health. It is especially important for us to call attention to the dedication of our local physicians in caring for the needs of the elderly -- particularly those in long-term care facilities.
The first Doctors' Day was observed in the U.S. on March 30, 1933. The idea came from Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Cha Almond, and the date was the anniversary of the use of general anesthetic in surgery. The U.S. House of Representatives adopted a resolution commemorating Doctors' Day on March 30, 1958, but it wasn't until 1990 when legislation was introduced in the House and the Senate to establish a national Doctors' Day. Following overwhelming approval by the Senate and the House, President George Bush signed a resolution designating March 30 "National Doctors' Day."
In our day to day care giving, we are often fortunate to witness the mutual respect that develops from a nearly lifelong relationship between physician and resident. In some cases, a resident's physician can no longer participate in their care and a new physician takes over medical oversight out of necessity. Whatever their role, these physicians are to be commended for their dedication in making sure that our seniors -- and others who can no longer take care of themselves -- receive the best medical care possible. It is an overwhelming task, often imposing long hours and midnight phone calls.
We salute area physicians for their dedication to the community at large, but in particular for their service to our residents, specifically Dr. Andaleon, Dr. Bhalala, Dr. Clingman, Dr. Dunlop, Dr. Deleon, Dr. Dixit, Dr. Dismer, Dr. Engstrom, Dr. Frank, Dr. Freeland, Dr. Frazin, Dr. Giron, Dr. Granada, Dr. Holmberg, Dr. Herman, Dr. Harvey, Dr. Khurana, Dr. M Kyncl, Dr. J. Kyncl, Dr. Kumar, Dr. Lim, Dr. Lin, Dr. McCreary, Dr. Monohan, Dr. Mahesh, Mr. Maslovsky, Dr. Nho, Dr. Palu-ay, Dr. R. Patel, Dr. Rubens, Dr. Shah, Dr. Siddique, Dr. Singh, Dr. G. Vashi, Dr. P. Vashi, Dr. Yorro and our medical director, Dr. Arora, and co-medical director, Dr. Frankle.
Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, and Happy Doctors' Day!
