Two residents hurt in Glenview apartment fire

Residents of a Glenview high-rise apartment building woke to fire and smoke early Saturday morning.

Firefighters rescued one elderly man from a unit, and his neighbor also was injured in the blaze at 3925 Triumvera Drive.

Authorities still are investigating the cause of the fire, which started in a kitchen.

Glenview firefighters responded to a call of smoke on the top floor of the 16-story structure about 1:30 a.m.

They found smoke and flames coming from a unit on the seventh floor, where a man described as being older than 65 was living. He was rushed to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge and is believed to be in critical condition.

Another seventh-floor tenant, who officials estimated was age 65 or older, was taken by ambulance to Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview. He is listed in stable condition.

The apartment where the fire started had significant smoke and fire damage. Although the fire was contained to the unit and was under control by 1:49 a.m., light smoke was reported throughout the seventh floor and on higher floors.

No firefighters were injured.
