Bond set for mall shooting suspects
A Kane County judge set bail at $750,000 Saturday for two men accused of shooting a 19-year-old Carpentersville man in a parking lot outside Spring Hill Mall.
Juan C. Garcia of 1501 Northlake Parkway and Oscar Jacobo of 6018 Hampton Drive shot Jose Reynoso in the parking lot of Kohl's at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.
Reynoso was in fair condition Saturday after being upgraded from critical condition Friday.
Garcia and Jacobo, both 18-year-old Carpentersville residents, have been charged with attempted murder, armed violence and aggravated battery -- all felonies that carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.
They have to post $75,000 bond to be released from Kane County jail, where they are being held.
Garcia and Jacobo are scheduled to appear before a judge at 9 a.m. April 10 in Room 311 of the Kane County Judicial Center.
Garcia's family members said they plan to hire a lawyer for him. Jacobo asked to be represented by a public defender.
Saturday morning's bond hearing revealed Jacobo has a pending cannabis case against him, while Garcia was charged earlier this year with possession of alcohol by a minor.
Garcia said at the bond hearing that he lives with his parents and attends Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville.
While most of Spring Hill Mall is in West Dundee, Kohl's is in Carpentersville.
Carpentersville police did not return a call Saturday seeking comment and have released no new details on the shooting since Friday evening.
