Wolves fall short in shootout

ROCKFORD -- Darren Haydar's second goal of the night, on the power play at 15:06 of the third period, tied the game, but the Chicago Wolves fell short in the shootout for a 3-2 loss to the Rockford IceHogs on Friday night at the Rockford MetroCentre.

Forwards Jesse Schultz and Joe Motzko scored for the Wolves in the shootout, but Rockford's Petri Kontiola scored the decisive third goal in the sixth round of the shootout.

Linemates Jason Krog and Motzko collected assists on both Haydar goals. The first goal came just 69 seconds into the game.

The Wolves (47-18-2-3), who have already clinched their 13th playoff berth in 14 seasons, holds an 11-point advantage for first place in the West Division over Rockford with 10 regular-season games remaining.

The Wolves are 1 away from reaching 100 points for the sixth time in franchise history.

The Wolves play a pair of weekend home games, tonight vs. Houston and Sunday vs. Grand Rapids.
