Canada's health system works well

Mr. Wagner's recent letter to Fence Post concerning the "Quebec health system in crisis" is misleading.

His claim that Claude Castonguay helped create the present health system is not correct. In fact, Mr. Castonguay is a long-serving advocate of greater privatization, user fees and private insurance in Canada.

He has worked for years as a paid lobbyist for insurance groups. Most of the report Wagner refers to has been publicly dismissed by the government.

Under the present Canadian Health System, you have a choice when it comes to health care. You can choose your doctor, which hospital you want to go to or which specialist you want to see.

This is where some of the waiting comes into play. Naturally, everyone wants to see the most famous specialist, doctor or go to the nearest and best hospital, but this is not always possible, as is the case with the best doctors and hospitals here in America.

If you are willing to take a choice from those most readily available, there is virtually no waiting period involved.

The truth is the Canadian Health System works very well. Seldom will you hear of any serious problem.

But there are those like Mr. Castonguay, a well-known hired gun for the insurance industry, who present the Canadian system in a bad light.
