Biggest problem is anti-Americanism

The sin of slavery is keeping the United States divided in a way many of us have failed to realize, even though we ended that evil almost 150 years ago.

In recent years, we've worked hard to ensure that Americans of every background are able to take advantage of the opportunities granted all citizens of this great country.

But the recent revelations brought to light by the sermons of Jeremiah Wright show that this is something much more than race.

Barack Obama has apparently succeeded in focusing our attention on the prejudices and anger brought on by years of slavery, followed by years of exclusion.

That was a clever move on his part, but the real issue is that many of our citizens are anti-American.

That is a division our nation cannot overcome.
