Round Lake woman admits to check theft

A Round Lake woman was placed on two years' probation Thursday after she admitted stealing from a woman for whom she was paid to provide in-home care.

Gail Hudrick, 51, pleaded guilty to theft, for stealing the victim's check and cashing it, during a hearing before Circuit Judge George Bridges.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Marykay Foy said Hudrick, of 323 Prospect Drive, was an in-home health care worker for a 99-year-old Grayslake woman.

Last October, the woman noticed one of her checks was missing and that it had been cashed for $250 and deposited in another woman's account.

Police interviewed the account owner, who told them Hudrick had given her the check.

Hudrick was originally charged with financial exploitation of an elderly person and forgery, but Foy agreed to reduce the charge in exchange for the plea.

Bridges also ordered Hudrick to pay a $150 fine and $250 restitution and perform 100 hours of public service.
