Special election reveals problems
It has been reported that more than 75 percent of registered voters did not vote on March 8. This was a disgraceful lack of respect for freedom and the system that America's military has fought to protect for 232 years, by self-centered and irresponsible registered voters. And, for what -- so we could exercise the right not to vote versus exercising our responsibility to vote?
For decades, I have heard too many self-centered and irresponsible people say and then do, "I can do anything I want, it's a free country."
What people? How about the self-centered and irresponsible -- "terrorist drunk drivers" who have killed more people on America's highways (more than 1,200,000 people) than all the American military deaths in all of America's wars!
It was recently reported that more than 1 percent of America's adult population is behind bars -- 2.3 million prisoners -- who are, for the most part, self-centered and irresponsible criminals who chose to do anything they wanted.
So what does this have to do with the recent election? One of the causes for registered voters choosing not to vote is the manner in which the election came about and the manner in which the campaigns were conducted.
Our duly elected self-centered and irresponsible Congressman quit, without giving a reason and an apology, at a cost of $2-plus million, for his constituents of 22 years.
Then, of course, were the self-centered and irresponsible candidates and their respective national committees with their negative, retaliatory and most often out of context, unsubstantiated allegations based campaigns.
Each party and their candidates killed voters' spirits and treated prospective voters like we are idiots, with their incessant mailings and their innumerable pre-recorded phone messages. Both parties and their candidates "just don't get it." They all owe constituents of the 14th District a public apology.
America, wake up -- the time for change is now! The common thread of these illustrations, and a long list of others not mentioned, is that they demonstrate America's condition without God. The needed change: all Americans, including me, must turn to God.
