Rezko, race issues hardly buried

In his March 19 letter, George Paradies said he was disheartened when he picked up his copy of the Daily Herald and did not find the latest Barak Obama news , regarding his pastor's clearly racist remarks and his contributions from Tony Rezko on the front page.

Seeing this apparently as a conspiracy to promote Obama, Paradies accused the Daily Herald of burying the story deep within the newspaper.

Paradies then goes on to write: "I want to know all I can about whom I decide to cast my vote for to run this country. I want to know who the candidate really is, not who says he is."

Although I do not know Paradies, and I hope that I am not doing him an injustice when I say this, but Paradies knew long ago who he was going to vote for, and it certainly isn't Clinton or Obama.

Reading Paradies' letter is like reading the transcript from a right-wing radio talk show.

Is the Daily Herald burying news about Rezko?

Unless something new is uncovered, the Daily Herald and other papers in the area have given news about Obama and Rezko prominent coverage for the past year.

In his March 18 speech, Obama gave what I consider to be one of the best speeches that I have ever heard about what is sometimes said in black churches.

What we should all remember is that for 300 years, many blacks were enslaved, oppressed and denied the opportunity to accumulate property.

I am old enough to remember how blacks were denied access to rest rooms, hotels and restaurants. And let's not forget the lynchings.

Yes, what Obama's pastor said was offensive to many people, but let's not forget there are many blacks today whose ancestors were enslaved and treated worse than cattle.

For those who are condemning the pastor and others who speak out with what seems to be anger against the country, can they say that they would not be saying the same things if the situation had been reversed and it had been their ancestors that had been enslaved and not allowed to accumulate wealth and property?
