Last chance to get Girl Scout cookies
If you're looking for a quick way to pick up your favorite Girl Scout cookies, Girl Scouts in Girl Scouts-Sybaquay Council will hold a drive-through cookie shop at the Girl Scout Center in Elgin.
Stop by today, Friday and Monday from 8 to 10 a.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be special hours from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday. The girls will take your orders and load you up. You don't even have to leave the comfort of your car. The Girl Scout Center is at 12N124 Coombs Road, on the corner of Route 20 and Coombs Road in Elgin.
Girl Scout cookie sale activities teach girls important life skills like setting goals, handling money responsibly, greeting the public and answering questions and following through with a commitment. Girl Scouts-Sybaquay Council is headquartered in Elgin and serves nearly 11,000 girls in McHenry County and parts of Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Lake, LaSalle and Kane counties.
Learn about Jane •Addams Tuesday
"Jane Addams and the Potential of Women: Her Growth as a Social Reformer" will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Community Rooms at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.
Sponsored in collaboration with the local chapter of the American Association of University Women, Louise W. Knight, author of "Citizen: Jane Addams and the Struggle for Democracy," will trace how Addams' early struggles with failure during an era of limited opportunities for women shaped her ideas about women's potential and her social reform activism. Book sales and signing follow the program. Registration is required.
Spanish Storytimes at Dundee library
Gilberts resident Larissa DeSmet will again lead her popular Spanish Storytimes at 7 p.m. today at the Dundee Township Public Library, 555 Barrington Ave., East Dundee.
