Laura, Jenna Bush to promote new book in Naperville

First lady Laura Bush and her daughter, Jenna, will visit Naperville in late April to discuss and sign copies of their new children's picture book, "Read All About It!"

They're scheduled to appear at 7 p.m. April 28 in the Naperville North High School auditorium, 899 N. Mill St. Their visit is sponsored by Anderson's Bookshop and is open to the public.

Tickets are $25 and include admission to their presentation, a copy of "Read All About It!" and the signing.

The book, which features illustrations by Denise Brunkus, is slated to hit stores April 22, according to Anderson's spokeswoman Candace Purdom.

Purdom said she's uncertain if the Bushes will make other appearances in the Naperville area that day. Officials at Naperville North said they're unaware of any plans to have the pair meet with students in advance of their evening presentation.

The book is published by HarperCollins and focuses on a boy named Tyrone, who's a big shot at school as king of the monkey bars, a math machine and a science whiz.

The only thing he doesn't like about school is reading. But when strange visitors start dropping by the classroom for story hour, Tyrone discovers there's more to books than just words on pages, according to the publisher's Web site.

This will be Jenna Bush's second visit to Naperville in six months.

She was here in October to promote her book, "Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope," which detailed the tale of a 17-year-old mother with HIV struggling to create a brighter future for her child and herself.

She spoke that night to a crowd of about 350 at city hall and also visited with students at Neuqua Valley High School to speak about the importance of volunteerism and education about HIV and AIDS.

Anderson's is well known for attracting big-name authors to Naperville, but Purdom admits the Bushes are a little different.

"When you have someone of this stature and have to deal with the Secret Service, it's a little more involved," she said.
