Rockets pick up victory

Burlington Central's baseball team opened its spring trip with an 11-8 win over host Mascoutah on Tuesday.

The Rockets' victory was ignited by a 5-run first inning. Mike Doty earned the win for the Rockets (1-0), backed by 7 doubles from the offense. Bryan Bell George Heller and Mark Gorney each smacked a pair of doubles for Burlington Central.

Larkin splits:ŒThe Royals split a doubleheader in their first action of the season at Oswego East. Larkin scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to take a 3-1 lead in the opener, but the Wolves rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull out the 4-3 victory.

Larkin (1-1) bounced back in the nightcap with a 13-6 win. Brandon Anderson (1-0) picked up the victory by pitching 4 innings of 4-hit relief, striking out 4 and walking 3. The Royals play at West Aurora today at 11 a.m.
