Grayslake drops season opener in Kentucky; Mundelein rolls

Visiting Grayslake Central wasted numerous scoring opportunities by stranding 11 runners in a season-opening 6-1 baseball loss to state-ranked Trinity in the opening round game of the Ballard Classic in Louisville, KY.

Junior Aaron Snyder threw well for the Rams but suffered the loss, allowing 3 earned runs and 4 hits to go along with 4 strikeouts. Zach Dorfman, Pete Toth and Chris Polak also saw mound duty for Grayslake.

The Rams drew 8 walks to go along with four singles off the bats of Nick Tielke, Kurt Schmidt, Jordaan Williams and Chris Brown.

"It's no fun to lose, but it sure was nice to finally play," said Rams coach Troy Whalen. "We battled and had our chances, but we didn't get the big hit that we needed tonight. Aaron threw the ball exceptionally well and kept us in the game. They (Trinity) swing the bats real well and for the most part, he held them in check."

Grayslake plays under the lights tonight against Medina, Ohio at 7:30 p.m.

Mundelein 14, Danville 2: Mundelein opened the first leg of its downstate spring break road trip in Danville and head coach Todd Parola said that as the game wore on, the temperature kept climbing.

Interestingly enough, the Mustangs also eventually heated up.

Trailing 2-1 after three innings, Mundelein exploded for 13 runs over the final four innings to get a decisive victory.

Junior outfielder Dylan Smith had a banner day. He went 3-for-4 at the plate and smacked a home run. He also rolled up 6 RBI.

Pitcher Eric Rohe went 5 innings and recorded 9 strikeouts.

The Mustangs are now 2-0 on the season.
