Why the double standard on clergy?

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright has been soundly criticized by those taking out of context quotes from sermons throughout his career.

Barack Obama has been forced to denounce him to protect his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Reverend John Hagee has made comments that are egregious whether in context or not, and has been embraced by Republican presidential candidate John McCain, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, and former Rep. Tom DeLay.

Why has this minister not been scrutinized and found wanting also? Why has John McCain not been forced to denounce him?
