One hurt in Elgin motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist was seriously injured Monday after he apparently lost control of his cycle and crashed along a busy thoroughfare in Elgin, authorities said.

The motorcyclist, a man whose identify and condition were not disclosed, was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin for treatment, said Elgin police Sgt. Glenn Theriault.

The crash was reported at about 3:15 p.m. on Route 20 near the Villa Street exit.

The motorcyclist appeared to have lost control of the cycle while he changed lanes and crashed. He was wearing a helmet, Theriault said.

The crash is under investigation and prompted police to limit westbound traffic on Route 20 for roughly an hour before the scene was cleared.
