Of course you must stand by your man

In response to the front page article on March 11 in the Chicago Tribune, "Why Stand By These Men?"

You will find the answer to all of life's tough questions in the Bible.

I do not support the actions of unfaithful men, but I do applaud a faithful spouse even if it brings some shame along with it.

Marriage, the greatest institution on planet Earth, was designed by God and instituted by God.

The marriage commitment requires a man and a woman to stand along each other through life's trials and difficulties, whether they are self-inflicted or not.

The problem with our society and culture is that we are living in a day where self is on the throne of many people's hearts.

Therefore, if a marriage requires sacrifice, pain, suffering or inconvenience to keep it intact, many jump ship. How self-destructive and sad.

Unfaithfulness is not justified from a spouse simply because the other spouse was unfaithful. The tragic disregard for the permanency of marriage will one day very possibly bring the end to civil society.

I applaud the faithfulness of those spouses who stand by one another.

Of course, if a spouse is a threat to the safety of another spouse, then it would make sense to separate for a time until that issue could be resolved, but that is not the issue in this article.
