Join 'Search for Spring' this week

Join naturalists from the Kane County Forest Preserve District on its "Search for Spring" during 90-minute hikes this week.

"We'll look under logs, peer into the treetops and search along the trail for signs of spring. We may discover wildflower shoots poking up through the leaves, or maybe we'll see the first arrivals of migrating songbirds. Perhaps we'll find the season's first butterflies or hear the early songs of chorus frogs," said Valerie Blaine, nature programs manager for the district.

All ages are welcome on these free family hikes. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Hikes are scheduled:

• Tuesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Camp Tomo Chi-Chi Knolls, 40W095 Freeman Road, Gilberts

• Wednesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Tekakwitha Woods Forest Preserve, 35W076 Villa Maria Road, St. Charles

• Thursday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Hannaford Woods/Nickels Farm Forest Preserve, on Merrill Road, one mile east of Route 74, Sugar Grove.

To RSVP or for information on nature programs from the forest preserve district, call (847) 741-8350, ext. 10, or visit www.kaneforest.com.
