Judson softball squad wins twice to earn weekend split

On day two of the IU-Southeast Tournament, Judson University's softball team swept both of its games to salvage a 2-2 weekend and move to 10-6 for the season.

On Saturday, Judson downed CCAC foe Calumet College 7-4 and then Anderson University of Indianapolis 12-3.

Elizabeth Eklund earned both wins on the day and Rachel Pope had 3 hits and 6 RBI.

Judson 7, Calumet 4: In a non-CCAC game, Judson was down 3-1 when the Eagles scored five times in the sixth inning to take a 6-3 lead.

Eklund pitched 6 innings and had 3 strikeouts for the win and Lizzy Jacobson came on in the seventh inning for her second save of the season.

Five players each had one hit for the Eagles but Pope and Deb Leganski brought home 2 runs while Nicole Dimiceli had an RBI.

Judson 12, Anderson 3: Down 3-0 in the fourth inning, Judson reeled off 5 runs to take a 5-3 lead. They then added 7 more runs in the fifth inning.

Anderson is a NCAA Division III school.

Eklund pitched 4 innings to pick up her second victory of the day and Aimee Ewert pitched the final inning for Judson.

Six players had two or more hits as Amy Meier, Jacobson, and Pope all had home runs. Pope went 2-for-3 with 4 RBI to lead the team. Meier was a perfect 3-for-3 with 2 RBI while Dimiceli was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and Jacobson 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Kristin Krueger and Trisha Lakotish each had 2 hits as well.

St. Mary of the Wood 8, Judson 6: St. Mary of the Wood scored 5 runs in the fifth inning for a 5-0 lead and never lost the lead. JU scored 4 runs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 5-4 but it wasn't enough.

Five players -- Deb Leganksi, Brittany Nicley, Carrie Sensor (2-of-4), Nicole Dimiceli (2-of-4), and Kristin Krueger (2-of-4). Lizzy Jacobson went 1-of-3 with two RBI.

Jacobson also suffered the loss and is now 3-2 on the season and recorded 1 strikeout.

IU-Southeast 6, Judson 1: Krueger had 2 hits and Nicley drove in the only Judson run in this loss. Ewert pitched 5 innings and had 4 strikeouts but fell to 4-3 on the year.
