Cross comes to Daley Plaza
In preparation for an Easter sunrise resurrection service, a 19-foot cross has been erected on Daley Plaza in Chicago, and in a rare blending of purposes, one of those touting its presence at a media event today will be atheist activist Rob Sherman of Buffalo Grove. The Thomas More Society, which obtained the permits to hold the Easter service and raise the cross, will unite with Sherman to applaud the city for approving the free exercise of private religious speech in the public square. Christians from several denominations have worked on the cross and the service. Sherman, who has sued government over religious displays, said he has no problem with expressions of faith in public, only with government-backed displays.
