Panel OKs two-year terms
A Community Unit District 300 panel has endorsed two-year terms for school board officers: president, vice president and secretary. The officers now have one-year terms. The policy committee approval means the issue will come before the full board this month. Policy committee Chairman John Ryan has said one year isn't always long enough to finish complex projects on the board. The two-year terms would coincide with election years.

How to get on village panel
Carpentersville residents interested in applying for a position on one of the village boards or committees now have guidelines and protocol to follow. The village board has outlined requirements, both for the village and applicant, when a seat opens up. Once a position is available, the village must post the opening on its Web site and marquee outside of village hall as well as in local newspapers. Potential candidates will then have 21 days to send a letter of interest to either Village President Bill Sarto or Village Manager Craig Anderson.
