Briefs: Red light cameras delayed

Naperville is extending its red light enforcement camera warning period through April 30. The city began operating the cameras at the intersections of Fort Hill Drive and Aurora Avenue and 95th Street and Book Road on March 1 with the goal of increasing motorist safety. Red light violation citations were due to be issued beginning April 1, but the warning period has been extended through April 30 due to delays in the installation process.

Caller arrested after threat

A 52-year-old Downers Grove man was arrested following a phone call made to a collection agency that threatened to "shoot up" a few people, authorities said Friday. Chester L. Price, 4736 Roslyn Road, was charged with felony telephone harassment and disorderly conduct and transported to DuPage County jail. His bail was set at $75,000. According to police, Price had returned a telephone call from a collection agency that was working on behalf of the DuPage County clerk's office and told the agent that he would not be paying back owed money and that he should go there with a gun and "shoot up" a few people.

Lilac princesses crowned

The village of Lombard's Lilac Princesses were introduced this week and crowned with tiaras. Village President William Mueller said the event was the first signal that "we know spring is just around the corner ... and the lilacs will be blooming soon." The princesses, who will be on hand for many of the village's annual Lilac Time festival events in May, are Caroline Pahl, Chelsea James, Elisa Lieb, Katie Scully and Melissa Reiman. One young lady will go on to become Lilac Queen during the festival.

Bensenville awards grant

The village board in Bensenville awarded a $5,000 grant this week to a family to help fund home improvement maintenance. The family became the first recipient of the village's Home Improvement Grant Program. The grant is designed to help people bring their homes into code compliance. The village plans to issue an additional 200 grants this year and another 200 in 2009. Village officials said they plan to spend roughly $2 million in grants to those who want to fix up residential areas.

Adult Easter egg hunt

Villa Park's Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its first adult Easter egg hunt at noon today at Prairie and Vine, 29 E. Park Blvd. Residents can search for eggs hidden somewhere outside the store. When cracking them open, they may find a surprise inside. For more information, call (630) 941-9133.
