To Burt and the media: play fair

After reading Burt Constable's March 11 column ("With closet of ugly bridesmaid dresses, Oberweis needs change"), I've reached the conclusion that Mr. Constable and the media are truly mean spirited and delight in the loss of a political figure. He pointed out all of Mr. Oberweis' losses and delighted in doing so.

Whether we agree or disagree with a political figure, there isn't any need to rub salt in the wound of a loss. Mr Constable said, he "unabashedly used the word 'loser' so many times I am impressed he never hung up on me."

He referred to Mr. Oberweis' loss to Jack Ryan by saying, "he couldn't beat Jack Ryan , whose scandal-plagued campaign was so abhorrent Republicans forced him off the ballot." What happened to Mr. Ryan was a personal matter between he and his wife. Mr. Ryan didn't desecrate a political office or lie about it as other political figures have done.

I'm glad Mr. Oberweis was a gentleman during his phone interview. He has class and will rise above the condescending and rude manner in which he was treated by Burt Constable.

The hatred that is spewed and reported by the media is ruining our country. We might have different political opinions but, can't we agree to disagree in a civil manner? Let's stop the mean spiritedness and report fairly.
