Old wounds beget new ones in fight that leads to arrest
One man was injured and another arrested after two Carpentersville men argued and fought on March 9 over an incident that happened in Mexico about five years ago, police said Thursday.
Damian O. German, 22, of 159 Madeira Circle, was charged Thursday with two counts of aggravated battery, one for causing great bodily harm and the other for using a deadly weapon, according to a court report.
German was told in court that if he pleads guilty or is found guilty of either or both charges, he could be deported since he said he was not a U.S. citizen.
German and the 19-year-old victim had known each other for about 10 years, and were drinking together at 4:25 a.m. on March 9 at 204 Waverly Court Apt. #2C in Carpentersville, police said.
When the incident from five years ago came up in their conversation, they began arguing and then German picked up a beer bottle which he broke over the kitchen table, police said.
He swung the jagged bottle at the victim's head as the younger man tried to protect himself with his hands, police said. When it was all over, the victim had cuts and wounds on his face, temple and hands, police said.
He needed 14 stitches to close a wound on his right hand, eight stitches for a cut on his left forearm and police said he will undergo surgery today to repair nerve damage he suffered.
German posted $5,000 bond Thursday and was given an April 4 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
