EIU names new athletic director

CHARLESTON -- Barbara Burke has been named athletic director at Eastern Illinois.
Burke spent the previous 10 years at the University of Wyoming. Since July 2006, she served as the deputy director of athletics and senior women's administrator, helping oversee planning while operating the school's 17-sport, $19 million athletic program.
Burke assumes her new job at Eastern Illinois on July 1st. She replaces Ken Baker, who's served as the interim athletic director since August.
Burke earned a bachelor of science degree from Western Michigan in 1980 and a master of education degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1984.
