When did we join the Axis of Evil?
For perhaps the first time in seven years of an evil, totalitarian, benighted administration, we are confronted with the truth.
The president of the United States supports torture and considers it his duty to defend his right to torture to "protect America."
Commit torture, defend torture, protect the right to torture.
That is what President Bush's veto of the "anti-torture" bill really means. There is no room in a democratic society for torture, or even acts which might arguably seem like torture. That's not how we do things in America.
It is how dictators do things, however. Saddam Hussein tortured his people.
Slobodan Milosevic of Yugoslavia was imprisoned by the U.N. for crimes against humanity, including torture. That's what George Bush himself has accused the Syrian, Iranian and North Korean states of doing. So where does that leave the United States of America?
Our president condones torture and allows torture to be committed in our names. When did we become part of the Axis of Evil?
