Woman injured in Campton Hills crash
A 27-year-old woman was injured Wednesday when the car she was driving swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with a beer truck on Route 64 in Campton Hills.
Amber Pauly of Maple Park had to be cut free from the wreckage before she was flown by helicopter to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, police said. She was listed in fair condition Wednesday night.
Police and firefighters were dispatched to the crash scene, east of Dean Street, at 2:16 p.m. Pauly had been driving west in a Honda Civic when the car crossed the highway center line and into the path of a Miller beer truck, said Campton Hills Police Chief Greg Anderson.
"At this point, we don't know why," he said. "The beer truck swerved a little to get out of the way, but she still hit the side area of it."
Firefighters cut off the top of the car to get Pauly out. Neither the truck driver nor his passenger, both men, were seriously injured, police said. Pauly was alone.
Anderson said Illinois State Police were called in to do a routine investigation because the accident involved a commercial vehicle. State officers will look into whether the truck had any safety violations or equipment problems that might have contributed to the accident.
Route 64 was closed in the area of Dean Street for about three hours, while Campton Hills police and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team investigated.
Anderson said alcohol did not appear to have been a factor. "Potentially, there could be charges once the investigation is complete, for traffic violations," he said.
