Pair charged in Elgin break-in

Elgin police say they have in custody two of the three men who invaded an apartment in February and pointed a gun at a man's head.

Roger Johnson, 39, of 361 E. 73rd St., Chicago, and James Holman, 27, 6954 S. Yale, Chicago, were each charged in court Wednesday with armed robbery and home invasion, according to a police report.

At 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, three men barged into one of the Buena Vista Apartments on the 1300 block of Amanda Circle and one held a handgun to the head of a 28-year-old man inside, the report said.

His 22-year-old girlfriend and her 8-year-old daughter told police they stood by and were terrified as the two other men raced around the apartment.

The men told them they were looking for "weed" as they ransacked the rooms, according to police.

Before they left, they took two cell phones and a laptop computer with them, the report said.

The case was turned over to detectives in Elgin's major investigation unit, and warrants were issued for Johnson and Holman on March 5.

On Tuesday evening the pair were picked up by Hazel Crest police and brought back to Elgin for their bond hearing.

Johnson has been on parole since February 2007 for an armed robbery conviction, according to state records.

Johnson's bond was set at $200,000 and Holman's at $50,000. Both were taken to the Kane County Corrections Center Wednesday morning.

Their next appearances in court are scheduled for March 28 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
