Imperative to have alternative fuels
The ripple effect of rising gas prices is causing an increase in the cost of all consumer goods and services. Experts say we'll see the price rise above $4 per gallon. In response to a direct request from President Bush, our supposed friends in OPEC declined to increase oil production.
Wake up America! Our economy, our national security, our status as a world leader, are all endangered by our continuing dependence upon foreign oil.
No amount of drilling on U.S. land will satisfy our need. Sun, wind, and water are renewable alternative energy sources, but Washington's efforts to promote their use have been halfhearted and slow coming.
It's time to contact your elected representatives and demand that they create programs to underwrite development of these free and non-polluting resources, including incentives for both industry and consumers.
During World War II, Americans demonstrated that they could unite and pull together in "the war effort." This present battle is more insidious but every bit as destructive to our future. It will require determination and some sacrifices (as did "The Big War"), but we can be victorious again, if we have the will. For the sake of our heirs and this great country that we hold so dear, I pray that we are up to the challenge.
