Kane County Forest Preserve District notes

Search for Spring hikes: Spring is just around the corner and the signs are everywhere.

Join naturalists from the Kane County Forest Preserve District as they "Search for Spring" during 90-minute hikes March 25-27.

"We'll look under logs, peer into the treetops and search along the trails for signs of spring. We may discover wildflower shoots poking up through the leaves, or maybe we'll see the first arrivals of migrating songbirds. Perhaps we'll find the season's first butterflies, or hear the early songs of chorus frogs," said Valerie Blaine, nature programs manager for the district.

All ages are welcome on these free, family hikes. Children must be accompanied by an adult. "Search for Spring" hikes are scheduled:

• March 25 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Camp Tomo Chi-Chi Knolls, 40W095 Freeman Road, Gilberts.

• March 26 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Tekakwitha Woods Forest Preserve, 35W076 Villa Maria Road, St. Charles.

• March 27 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Hannaford Woods/Nickels Farm Forest Preserve on Merrill Road, one mile east of Route 74, Sugar Grove.
