Itasca puts limits on future garages
Itasca village board members agreed to put limitations on future garages Tuesday night.
Trustees voted 5-1 in favor of limiting future standard garage doors to 9 feet tall and only allowing little-used roll-up garage doors to be 6 feet tall.
Last night was the third time village officials discussed ways to tweak the garage code in order to ensure consistency of structures throughout the community.
"The point of this is so we don't end up with a bunch of oversized garages," Trustee Ron Putzell said.
The recent discussions have been triggered by a resident who built a garage that met the village's code, but in some trustees' opinions looked like a truck garage.
Even though Trustee Jeff Aiani voted in favor of the ordinance, he previously wanted a more thorough study done and wanted more details.
"I don't think the ordinance is strict enough," he said Tuesday night.
Officials anticipate a front porch code also could be explored in the near future because of similar issues.
