Special schools meeting
The Geneva Community Unit District 304 school board will hold a special meeting at 6 tonight at the administration center, 227 N. Fourth St., Geneva. The board is scheduled to discuss policies regarding board-superintendent relations and transportation and meet in closed session to discuss employee matters. Open house at NIU
Northern Illinois University will hold an open house for prospective students from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Holmes Student Center on the DeKalb campus. Attendees can talk with faculty, admissions officers and student services workers. There will be a campus tour, residence hall visits and an information fair. Art wanted for exhibit
The Aurora Public Art Commission is seeking works for an exhibit titled "Lost and Found: The Art of Making Art After an Extended Interlude." Artists who have, for any reason, stopped making art for a time and resumed creating their work are invited to submit two- and three-dimensional pieces. The exhibit will go on display next year. Deadline for entries is Sept. 26. Artists should send a CD with images of four to 10 recent works including dates, resume, address, phone number, e-mail address, artist's statement and Web site/online gallery if applicable to the Aurora Public Art Commission, 44 E. Downer Place, Aurora, IL 60507. Artists who want the packet returned should include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
Egg hunt in South Elgin
The South Elgin Recreation Department will host an egg hunt at noon Saturday at Kenyon Woods off Raymond Street. Parking is available at South Elgin High School. The program is geared to children up to 12 years old, and participants should bring their own baskets. The hunting areas will be assigned by age groups. Kids can also visit the petting zoo, ride ponies and dance to the music of a disc jockey. The department also is accepting nonperishable donations to the local food pantry for an entry into the holiday basket raffle. Call (847) 622-0003 for more information.
