No immunity to phone companies
I support the passage of a FISA bill that protects our national security. I believe that any and all electronic surveillance can effectively occur with a warrant.
However, I am adamantly opposed to granting immunity to the telephone companies that have participated in the warrantless surveillance program.
These companies have substantial legal resources to know that their participation was illegal. There is also some evidence now that domestic surveillance occurred long before 9/11/01. I want the courts, not the Bush administration, to determine if the circumstances were justified for all warrantless surveillance.
