Briefs: Time for a car wash
The St. Charles Knights Blue 12-year-old baseball team will sell Key West Car Wash coupons for $10 (a $2 savings)from noon to 4 p.m. today at Caputo's Grocery at 622 Randall Road in South Elgin. The car wash will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Key West Car Wash at 215 Randall Road in South Elgin. Proceeds support a June trip to the National Cooperstown Tournament of Champions in Cooperstown, N.Y.
Pancakes for a cause
Junior high students at the Congregational Church of Batavia will host a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. today in Paxton Hall at the church, 21 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia. Tickets will be available at the door. Tickets are $5.50 for adults and $4.50 for children with a family maximum price of $25. Funds will benefit the Make A Wish Foundation and the church's Raise The Roof fund. Call (630) 879-1999.

An autographed red Yamaha Disklavier Mark IV piano, identical to the one Elton John plays in his "The Red Piano" show in Las Vegas, is on display from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cordogan's Pianoland, 33W441 Route 38, Geneva. It plays five recordings by John.
Special schools meeting
The Geneva school board has a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at the administration center, 227 N. Fourth St., Geneva. It will discuss policies regarding board-superintendent relations and transportation, receive an award, and meet in closed session to discuss its workers.
Aurora tobacco sales check
Four of eight stores checked recently by Aurora investigators sold tobacco products to an underage person who was working with police. Clerks at Citgo Gas, on the 300 block of West Galena Boulevard; Walgreens, on the 1200 block of North Randall Road; Gateway Newsstand, on the 100 block of Fox Valley Center Drive; and Sinha Gas, on the 1100 block of East New York Street, were all served with notices to appear in court for delivery of tobacco to a minor. One Stop, on the 200 block of South Lake Street; Thorton's Gas, on the 2800 block of Ogden Avenue; BP Amoco, on the 2500 block of Ogden Avenue; and LaValitta, on the 1400 block of East New York Street, all checked the underage person's identification and refused to sell tobacco. Police said future operations will be staged to ensure businesses are complying with applicable laws.
