Briefs: Stevenson finishes 2nd

Lincolnshire's Stevenson High School fell just short in its quest to take another Scholastic Bowl state championship Friday in Peoria. Rockford's Auburn High School topped Stevenson 243-197 for the state crown. The Illinois High School Association's Scholastic Bowl is similar to the quiz show "Jeopardy!" Students compete in topics such as literature, history, science, geography and the arts. Captained by senior Bojidar Spassov of Buffalo Grove, the 10-member Stevenson Scholastic Bowl squad beat Wilmette's Loyola Academy, Springfield High School and O'Fallon High School to reach Friday's final. Stevenson notched Scholastic Bowl titles in 2005 and 2000. Bruce Fitzgerald served as head coach for this year's team.

Cause of death found

Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said the 91-year-old Westmont woman discovered in a wooded area in Gurnee died of hypothermia. Isadora Budasi's body was discovered in her car Thursday morning 50 yards off Route 41, Gurnee police Cmdr. Jay Patrick said. The car had apparently failed to negotiate a turn, jumped the curb, and continued into the wooded area. Airbags deployed, but Keller said the woman was not injured in the crash. Westmont is about 50 miles south of Gurnee. There was no sign of foul play. The woman was reported missing Monday after failing to return home after a hair appointment Saturday. Keller said the woman had been in the wooded area for about three or four days before her car was discovered by motorists Thursday.

Parking ban approved

The Lake County Board this week banned parking cars, trucks and vans on grass in unincorporated areas. Recreational vehicles and parking for family gatherings are exempt from the restriction, officials said. The regulation updated the county's unified-development ordinance.

Renewal forms mailed

Vehicle-sticker renewal forms were mailed Friday to all Libertyville residents and businesses with vehicles registered in the village. Stickers can be purchased by mail or in person beginning Monday. Cost is $30 per vehicle or truck if purchased prior to May 1. Senior citizens can purchase one sticker for $15. Residents are reminded that police have increased enforcement to ensure compliance. Vehicles without a current sticker as of May 1 are subject to a $100 fine. Sticker fees are used to fund road improvements.
