Briefs: Check out Barber of Seville

A former member of the Lyric Opera Chorus will present a free program on the music and highlights from Gioachino Rossini's Barber of Seville at 2 p.m., today at the Dundee Township Public Library. John Rammel, now a lecturer with the Chicago Lyric Opera Education Corps, will share the story of Figaro, the audacious barber of Seville, who uses every bit of his blarney and trickery to bring two sweethearts together. EYSO ready to kick off

The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform its first concert of the year on Sunday. Two performances of "Inspire -- Sacred Music for Symphony" are slated, for 4 and 7 p.m., at the Blizzard Theatre in the Elgin Community Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Mezzo-soprano Kitt Reuter-Foss will perform the Bernstein Symphony No. 1 "Jeremiah" during the 7:00 p.m. concert. Reuter-Foss has performed multiple times at the New York Metropolitan Opera. Nominate a U-46 employee

Nominations for the Elgin Area School District U-46 Employee of the Year are being accepted through Tuesday. The Employee of the Year Award formally recognizes outstanding employees the district.
