• The Arlington Heights Garden Club hosts Marolyn Bina for a slide show on heirloom perennials and annuals at 7 p.m. Monday at the Arlington Heights Library, 500 N. Dunton Ave., Arlington Heights. No charge. (847) 962-9909.

• The Garden Club of Inverness hosts Christine Wagner, floral designer for Red Oaks furniture in Long Grove, for a discussion on using artificial flowers throughout the home. Gardening lecture

• Rinda West, author of "Out of the Shadow: Ecopsychology, Story and Encounters with the Land," explores the psychological and social consequences of human relationships with nature as part of the Lurie Garden Lecture Series. The lecture is at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St., Chicago. The lecture is free. (312) 742-5519.
