Judson softball off to 6-2 start

The Judson University softball team improved its record to 6-2 on the season in the Tucson Invitational Thursday. The Eagles picked up wins over Monmouth College and Patten University in their third day of play in Arizona.

Nicole Dimiceli had an outstanding day for Judson as she had 7 hits, 7 RBI and a home run.

Webster 12, Judson 3: Webster scored early and held on for the lead as Judson only scored 3 runs in a five-inning game. Dimiceli went 2-for-3 and Lizzy Jacobson, Kristin Krueger, and Debra Leganski all had RBI for the Eagles.

Elizabeth Eklund took the loss in 3 innings of work with 2 strikeouts. Jacobson finished the final two innings and had 1 strikeout.

Judson 14, Monmouth College 0: Judson picked up its first shutout of the season with this win. Aimee Ewert went the distance and had 4 strikeouts.

Dimiceli led the team with a 3-for-4 performance recording a home run and 4 RBI. Amy Meier went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI while Rachel Pope was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI. Brittany Nicely picked up a hit and had 2 RBI.

Judson 14, Patten 7: Jacobson worked three innings with 4 strikeouts while Ewert finished up the final four innings with 4 strikeouts in this win.

Dimiceli added to her RBI total on the day with three more to lead the team. Leganski, Krueger, Ewert, Pope, and Jacobson all had a RBI. Krueger also went 3-for-4.

Judson 6, Calvin 3: In a win over Calvin College, Eklund earned the win, and Jacobson pitched the final two innings. Leganski hit her first home run of the year and Carrie Sensor was 2-for-4.. Dimiceli also hit her first home run of the year and collected 2 RBI.

Judson 10, Hendrix 1: Ewert was inside the circle for the win and had a perfect game into the fifth inning with two outs when she gave up a hit. She recorded 5 strikeouts. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

Meier went 2-for-4 with 4 RBI and a stolen base. Dimiceli added 2 hits in 3 at-bats and had a stolen base. Jacobson went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and Leganski added an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

Judson 3, McKendree 2: The Eagles scored a close win over No. 20 McKendree. Jacobson picked up the win with a complete game, striking out six. Dimiceli was 2-for-3, Ewert had 2 hits and Leganski had a RBI.

College baseball

Mount Vernon Nazarene 6, Judson 0: Mount Vernon Nazarene scored 5 runs in the first three innings and then the final run in the sixth inning for a 6-0 win Thursday. Juan DeArmos led Judson in hitting going 2-for-3. Brett Ehrlich had the other hit for Judson.

Alci Gonzales took the loss for Judson in five innings of work with 6 strikeouts.

Mount Vernon Nazarene 3, Judson 2: Judson jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but then let MVNU score 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth and six innings.

Jack Bostwick, Zach Scipione, Rafeal Tejada, Roger Lugo, and DeArmos each had a hit for Judson and Tejada had a RBI. Scott Kainovic pitched 5 innings and gave up 4 runs with 3 strikeouts.
