Palatine doubles way to quad title

Palatine was doubly tough in its badminton quad Wednesday.

The Pirates won four of five doubles matches to take the team title with 14 points. Plainfield North was second with 11 points, Maine West was third and Maine East fourth.

Palatine's first doubles team of Katie Van Grondelle and Niki Patel swept three matches. The closest of its six games was a 9-point margin.

Jaina Bhayani and Alanna Krogstad needed 3 games to top Maine East but won all 3 of their matches at second doubles.

The third doubles team of Betsy An and Colleen Maund rallied from a 21-19 loss in the first game of its match with Plainfield North but came back to take the title.

The Pirates' fifth doubles team of Kylie Kosulic and Rocio Lopez also swept three matches with no games closer than 6 points.

Palatine's Deanna Barnes and Sarah Krantz took second at fourth doubles.
