Piniella tries new lineup
MESA, Ariz. - Cubs manager Lou Piniella wasted little time today installing his latest new batting order.
That batting order features Alfonso Soriano moving down to the No. 2 spot in the lineup and Ryan Theriot moving up to the leadoff spot.
The Cubs lineup for this afternoon's game against Greg Maddux and the Padres looks like this:
1. Theriot, SS
2. Soriano, LF
3. Derrek Lee, 1B
4. Aramis Ramirez, 3B
5. Kosuke Fukudome, RF
6. Mark DeRosa, 2B
7. Geovany Soto, C
8. Sam Fuld, CF
9. Jason Marquis, P
After Wednesday's game, Piniella had said he would give Soriano a day off and bat him second beginning Friday.
"We said we were going to try it. We've got everybody playing today. Might as well get started with it today and see what it looks like."
