Chicago man falls to death from fire escape

Chicago police are attempting to learn why 23-year-old Michael Rivera fell 19 stories to his death from the fire escape of of the near North Side apartment building where he lived with his girlfriend.

Officers say Rivera took a taxi home late Tuesday night and didn't have enough cash to pay his fare, so he left his identification and a credit card with the driver while he went inside to get the money.

The building manager said Rivera took the elevator up, but about ten minutes later he fell from the fire escape.

Chicago Police Officer Amina Greer said Rivera's body was found in the alley after bouncing off the hood of a luxury automobile belonging to the building manager.
