Briefs: Bridge closed today

The Wilson Street bridge in Batavia will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today to repair part of the bridge construction damaged by floating ice. Time for a car wash

The St. Charles Knights Blue 12-and-under baseball team will be selling Key West Car Wash coupons for $10 (a $2 savings)from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Caputo's Fresh Markets at 622 Randall Road in South Elgin. The car wash will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Key West Car Wash at 215 Randall Road in South Elgin. Proceeds support a June trip to the National Cooperstown Tournament of Champions in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Pancakes for a cause

Junior high students at the Congregational Church of Batavia will host a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday in Paxton Hall at the church, 21 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia. Tickets -- available at the door -- are $5.50 for adults and $4.50 for children with a family maximum price of $25. Funds will benefit the Make A Wish Foundation and the church's Raise The Roof fund. Federal dollars for Kane

Kane County will get about $250,000 in federal funds for emergency food and shelter programs. The county was chosen for the grant by a National Board chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. A local board of charities will decide how the money is spent. Any groups that are nonprofit and have the capability to deliver emergency food and shelter programs can apply for funding by contacting Michael Meyer at the Fox Valley United Way at (630) 896-4636 by March 24.

Egg hunt in South Elgin

The South Elgin Parks and Recreation Department will host an egg hunt at noon March 22 at Kenyon Woods off Raymond Street in South Elgin. Parking is available at South Elgin High School. The program is geared to children up to 12 years old and participants should bring their own baskets. Hunting areas will be assigned by age groups. Kids can also visit the petting zoo, ride ponies and dance to the music of a disc jockey. The department also is accepting nonperishable donations to the local food pantry for an entry into the holiday basket raffle. Call (847) 622-0003.
