Catholic church embraces life

Sheryl Jedlinski's March 7th caustic attack against the Catholic Church is the second time she has been allowed to demonstrate her hatred of this religious institution.

She uses the current popular argument of comparing all of the Church's history against the present day homosexual/pedophile priest scandal to condemn any credibility the church has ever earned through its 2000-plus year history.

She accuses the church of practicing "selective morality." Why? Because it has taught consistently that human beings are created in the image and likeness of God; that they carry that divine identity from the moment of conception until their death; that the embryo is a human being endowed with a soul and unique set of genetic blueprints; that this developing "person" should not arbitrarily be chosen by scientists to sacrifice its life for endless experimentation, cloning or artificial procreation?

When have we become so monstrous in this country as to insist that one sector of defenseless humanity should die for the cause of another in the name of science? That is "selectively" immoral!

Embryonic stem cell research has been in existence for more than 20 years with private funding and has shown no results, not one cure or one successful therapy to advance the continuation of this failed science.

The Catholic Church approves of adult stem cell research, which has already produced astounding therapeutical success in the treatment of a variety of diseases. Jedlinski would rather believe the myths regarding ESCR perpetrated by movie stars and a scientific community rabid for government funding, than accept the facts.

When have we become so blind as to suggest science has all the answers and that religion has none? Wasn't it scientists who ushered in the age of the atomic bomb with all of its "torture and violence." Jedlinski's accusation of "narrow beliefs" can go both ways.
