Worker dies after fall at Great America

A Wisconsin man fell to his death while dismantling a water ride at Six Flags Great America Tuesday, officials said.

Thomas Lee, 46, of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, was working on the Splash Water Falls ride Tuesday morning when he plunged about 50 feet to his death, hitting part of the ride on the way down, Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller said.

Lee was taken in critical condition to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville just after 9 a.m., Gurnee Fire Battalion Chief Bob Heraver said.

Lee died around 9:40 a.m. of head and chest injuries suffered from the fall, Keller said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating. It was not immediately known if Lee was wearing any safety gear or what safety measures were or were not being used, Keller said.
