Hoffman Estates names acting fire chief

Hoffman Estates village manager James Norris has appointed Deputy Fire Chief Robert Gorvett as acting fire chief to replace former Chief Kevin Rynders.

Gorvett, 54, said he's also applied for the permanent position.

This will be Gorvett's third temporary stint. He was the acting chief for about 15 months starting in 1996, and for another 15 months in 1999.

Gorvett said he applied for the permanent position for the first time this go-around because his children are now adults.

Rynders left for an assistant chief's position at Algonquin/Lake in the Hills.
