ECC official leaving for new job

Elgin Community College's vice president of instruction and student services Friday said she has accepted the position of president at Manchester Community College in Connecticut.

Gena Glickman, vice president since 2004, led ECC's accreditation process and initiated its academic master plan. She also co-founded the Alliance for College readiness in 2006, a group tasked with defining what it means to be "college ready."

Prior to her position at ECC, Glickman was associate provost at the University of Baltimore and taught part-time in the graduate school of education for the University of Maryland. She also worked as the executive director for curriculum development and evaluation at Harford Community College, and as assistant vice president at Baltimore City College.

"I've spent half my career working in community colleges and knew that's where my heart was," Glickman said. "I also knew I wanted to lead a community college as a president."

Though Glickman said she hasn't set a firm date to leave ECC, she plans to stay at the college through the end of the spring semester. Manchester's current president, Jonathan Daube, will retire in June.

The college will do a national search to replace Glickman, said vice president of finance and administration Carole Robertson. An acting vice president will be named in the coming weeks.

"We're really going to miss her collaborative work style," Robertson said.
