Briefs: Bridge closed Thursday
The Wilson Street bridge in Batavia will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday to repair part of the bridge construction damaged by floating ice. Gambling problem?
In recognition of National Problem Gambling Awareness Week, which runs through Saturday, the Renz Addiction Counseling Center will offer free gambling screenings from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at its headquarters at 2 American Way, Elgin. Renz Center provides care dedicated to the prevention, intervention and treatment of addictive behaviors related to alcohol, drugs, and gambling. Roadside check
Police will conduct roadside safety checks in St. Charles on Friday night. Illinois State Police and St. Charles police will be checking for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, drivers with suspended or revoked licenses, transporting open alcohol or driving unsafe vehicles. The program is funded through a federal grant.
